3 Counties and 3 Diocese

The Lechlade walk on 7th May was blessed by good weather, though it rained hard before and afterwards. Fourteen of us caught the bus from Swindon Bus Station to Lechlade market Square and were greeted by a kind MU member called Elizabeth. We visited St Lawrence's church Lechlade where we heard organ practice, thence to The Trout Inn where the fete was just starting - several cakes were purchased. Then we walked along the Thames by a very tall stand of poplar trees to the lock at Buscot, where we picnicked beside the weir.

We went to see the beautiful stained glass of the Good Shepherd by Edward Burne Jones (1891) in the East window of St Mary's church Buscot. Some of us found a weird and wired horse in a wood. Thence to the Plough at Kelmscott from where we visited the grave of William Morris (died 1896) at the Norman church of St George, Kelmscott (c 1190). Then we marched back to Lechlade to catch the bus home. You can see more of our pictures in the Christ church album here.
